I love a good thunderstorm, I’m always the first to be sitting at the window watching the lightening streaking across the sky. So you can imagine my glee when we actually got a big one at 4am one day/night last week!
Initially the rain woke me up hammering against the window with some serious ferocity (it’s worth noting that I am sleeping on the sofa at present, moving to a single story bungalow can’t come soon enough!) I’m a naturally heavy sleeper so being woken up by rain isn’t something that happens to me. What followed only a couple of minutes later was an indescribably loud, almighty BOOM of thunder so impressive I can only liken it to storms I’ve witnessed overseas in Greece or even Florida, USA where they get “proper” thunder storms! It was immense and certainly got my attention. “Quick” I thought “get to the window !” Only “quick” isn’t something that resonates with my body anymore, in fact trying to rush or do anything with any urgency has the complete opposite fucking effect because my muscles go into overdrive and hinder my every movement. So in my hurry to get off the sofa and to the dining room (probably worth mentioning that is where the dog sleeps and he hadn’t made a sound so obviously wasn’t at all bothered by the bellowing thunder or the light show that was going on outside) where I could sit by the French doors for the best view, my legs and entire trunk went into an extensor spasm and I ended up poker straight, prone on the fucking floor. Bollocks!!! I’ve been in this situation more than enough times to know that struggling against the spasm only makes it worse and exhausts me to the point that I don’t have the strength to pull myself out of it so I have to breath, stay clam and move slowly and deliberately in order to break each spasm and right myself. Which is normally fine but on this occasion I was missing out!

Hubby came downstairs and let the dog into the lounge with me, asked if I was alright which garnered my usual “yeah, of course” response and promptly went back to bed. Dog was then snoring on the sofa and I was still on the bloody floor, although thankfully now in a sitting position. By the time I got back up onto the sofa I sat listening to the distant rumbles as the storm weaved its way eastward (towards my my mum who hates storms and was no doubt already hiding under her duvet!) taking the lightening with it and leaving me thoroughly disappointed and very pissed off. We are due more storms over the coming weeks but knowing my luck they’ll be crappy little ones or be during the day when I can’t even see the frigging lightening!
